No, Szambelan is not the Polish word for kismet or fate. It's a sensational vodka with a 300 year old history and distributed exclusively by Sarasota's Brand Name Imports (BNI). The vodka's appearance in Florida is a direct result of a Sarasota guy, Ken Brand, meeting and falling in love with Agnieszka Izdebska, an ancestor of the 17th century Chamberlain, Ireneusz Izdebski IV, during the reign of King Stanislaw August Poniatowski.

Pretty romantic stuff. However, more than romance and vodka connect the couple as both share connected industries. Ken in addition to being BNI's founder and president is also the owner of Platinum Coast Mortgage Company and Agnieszka, a USF graduate with a BA in Finance, is the owner of National Title and Escrow Company.

The background to the beginnings of Szambelan according to Agnieszka goes like this, "It seems that my ancestor, Chamberlain Izdebski, was a connoisseur of ancient vodka recipes and is known to have said, 'The only good vodka is old vodka', and so, on Thursday evenings at the royal castle, Szambelan was the vodka of choice with dinner. The tradition and stories of this vodka have come to me after being passed down through generations."

BNI was created to distribute Szambelan throughout the US and Canada and is currently available in Sarasota at Bonefish Grill (South 41 & University locations), Monk's Steamer Bar and Evie's Tavern. But according to Ken, "By the summer of 2008 we fully expect that Szambelan, the vodka served when ordinary will not do, will be the most called for vodka throughout Florida." A major launch party for Szambelan is scheduled for November of this year and will be held at Bonefish Grill.

Ken believes in giving something back to his Sarasota community by participating in event sponsorships such as a major fund raising event for the Child Protection Center in February 2008. Szambelan recently sponsored The 10th Annual SRQ Hot List Party and the phrase "Szam' it" was created to order up a shot of this incredible vodka.

Szambelan, a noble and mysterious vodka, is triple-distilled in Poland by the world renowned Polmos distillery. This traditional vodka is now in its third century of production and its historic recipe produces a lucid clarity complemented by a refined and rich finish.
